Default How are characters sorted?

I apologize if this has been asked, but does anyone know how the game sorts your characters on the character select screen when you are using "Unsorted" mode, and is there a way to change it? I ask because my characters were in a certain order, but I got a "Repairing Data File" error, and when I went back into the game the characters now appear in a different order and it seems to be permanently changed. Any idea what is going on?

I don't think anyone really knows what order they're supposed to be in. If I leave mine in unsorted mode, they occasionally change positions for no reason that I can detect. It's just...weird.

On my selection screen I can pick either alphabetically or PvP/PvE sorting.

I have yet to find a pattern either.....I recently added 2 new slots and they appeared on the far right side with my female monk inbetween them....strange.
My first spot on the far left is my rit while my monks are separated, alphabetically they arent in order nor by chapter....no idea whatsoever.

I believe the slots changed order as the expansions were added and thats how it got messed up.

They where originally alphabetical up to factions, when additional slots were for sale, they "froze" the order" and additional slots were added on the far right side, at least this is how my characters are.

They seem to reorder themselves if you create a char with a different name (as oppose to deleting 1 and calling it the same name). I have absolutely no idea why... but i'd really like to be able to order it my frigging self!

I remove the ordering when I make a new character, then re-alphabetise it after.... It helps because I have a specific naming convention for my characters.

All serious Canthan characters (and my one Elonian Dervish to date, despite the rest of his name being African) are members of the Hyun family, and hence their names start with that (Korean naming order).... My Tyrian characters on the other hand (all two of them)... start with the words "Ghost of" ... (since I named my necro after my favourite old Gaia Online trolling account: "Ghost of Cot Death", and decided to make it the convention)...
... And my storage mules start with "Amazing Storage" ....

Hence if I alphabetise it.... I have my storage accounts on the left, followed by my Tyrians... followed by the rest (and oddly enough my Dervish [Hyun Tau Yera] is last in the list, putting things in campaign order inadvertantly).

I've never had any organisation problems therefore.

Off topic, but I noticed someone's been reading Phillip Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy.

mine werent alphabetical then either..when nf came out---my 2nd toon is a nightfall ele.....
when they added the factions spaces they wound up on either side of my old characters....when nf came out the interspersed them all together....my last 2 slots were NOT added to the end....one is the other wound up on the other side of my monk (who was NOT the last character created)
now my dis- order is:
my rit, my nf ele, my chpt 1 monk, my paragon, my chpt 1 mes, my factions ranger, my chpt 1 necro, my chpt 1 ele, my factions mes, my new factions ele (formers dervish same name), new slot, factions monk, new slot......

now you figure it out, I cant.....
